As we come to the close of our 2018-19 season and 2019 fiscal year, we want to say a huge thank you to every one of you — our audience, donors, volunteers, and friends — for making what we do possible. We're so grateful for your tremendous support!
This past season, KINETIC continued its unwavering commitment to showcase diverse, under-represented, and newly composed classical music through collaboratively-driven, and transformative live musical experiences. Scroll down for some highlights from 2018-19 (lots of photos)!

2018-19 was a record year for collaborations! In January and February, we teamed up with Windsync for an open rehearsal demo at Archway Gallery (pictured here) plus performance at MATCH, along with Houston Symphony horn player, Rob Johnson. Then in May, we partnered with Aperio, Music of the Americas, for a joint season finale celebrating Brazilian composers.
There's nothing like working together with a composer to bring their works to life! In October, we invited Daniel Temkin to Houston for the world premiere of his string orchestra work, Ocean's Call. In May, composer-performer Clarice Assad (pictured here) joined us on stage at MATCH for a showcase her music for chamber and string orchestra.
In October, we spent two full days working with orchestra students of Stratford High School, demonstrating the art of communicating through music and gesture. Here's KINETIC violinist Heemin demonstrating how to cue in the same mood and style of the music we play.
Performing in untraditional spaces are oftentimes the most rewarding musical experiences! In March, we teamed up with Texas Monthly and Rice Business for a week of classical music concerts in Austin during SXSW — sponsored by The Shepherd School of Music. We had a blast! Later that month, we returned to A 2nd Cup for our annual "KINETIC & Friends" Chamber Music and Market Pop up, alongside a crew of our favorite Houston creatives, curated by Kathrine Zeren.
Diverse + Under-Represented Classical Music
Last but not least, we continued to perform a variety of amazing works for strings that were rarely performed, or even new to Houston audiences: Arnold Schoenberg's Suite in the Old Style, Michael Daugherty'sFallingwater—featuring our very own Samuel Park (pictured here), Grace Williams'Sea Sketches—and more. As you know, KINETIC is all about discovering great music and staying curious. Thank you for joining us on that journey!
